We try to be sensitive to the feelings and concerns of each couple who contacts us about adoption, but our focus is always on the child entrusted in our care. There are many more couples desiring to adopt than there are children being placed in our care, so we are not able to help all the couples who contact us. We do need to select prospective parents and in doing so we are mindful of the requests of birth parents and the needs of children.
Our guidelines for prospective adoptive parents are that both the husband and wife are Christians, are a minimum of 23 years old and have been married a minimum of two years. Neither parent shall be more than 45 years older than the child being placed. The husband and/or wife must have steady employment and show proof of an adequate income to support a family. Adoptive applicants must have a home study completed by a representative of Nebraska Christian Services or other competent licensed agency (if adoptive couple resides outside of State of Nebraska) and the physical standards of the home must meet those that are generally accepted as being necessary to meet the child's needs. Adequate health of all members of the family must be certified before approval. References from a minister, employer, friends and relative will be required. We are also required to check with the Child Abuse Registry, Adult Abuse Registry, State Patrol and Sexual Offender Registry to see if there are any records of abuse or criminal activity.
